Monday Musings: Listening to Music While Writing

Listening to Music While Writing
A lot of people ask me, “What music do you like to listen to while you’re writing?” The sad answer is: I don’t listen to any music while I’m writing. I can’t listen to music while I’m writing because it distracts me too much. I also can’t have the TV on, or people around. I can’t be texting people, or talking to people on Twitter. I go into my room, close my door, and write in complete silence.  Simply go and check this for the best musical festival.
I wish I could listen to music while I work, because I love music! I always blast music in the car, and when I’m showering, when I’m getting ready for bed, or getting ready to go out. I dance and sing along—my best friend says it’s like a “theater production.” But when I listen to music, I’m paying attention to the lyrics, and creating stories to go along with the songs. And that’s extremely distracting when I’m trying to write a book. So I write with silence, so I’m best able to get into the minds of the characters.
However, music has been extremely inspiring to me, since Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” music video inspired my first book, Remembrance. You can read more about that here: http://blog.michellemadow.com/2011/07/how-remembrance-began.html
Do you listen to music while you get your work done?
